The Prodigal God

One son kept the rule religiously. One son broke them all. Their father loved them both beyond anything they could ever imagine. We know it as “The Prodigal Son” but that title doesn’t do the story justice. We assume the word prodigal means wayward or rebellious because of the heading above the parable. But the word prodigal actually means extravagant or excessive. It’s a beautiful way to describe God’s extravagant love and excessive grace. The avenue through which he continues to display that love and grace is Jesus’ church on earth.
