Sinners and tax collectors had gathered around to hear more of Jesus. Religious leaders gathered around to critique Jesus. When Jesus begins telling the three parables of lost things, everything each of these groups thought about God was proven wrong - at least from Jesus’ perspective. The sinners were intrigued and captivated by grace, the religious offended by it. But Jesus is setting them all up for this truth - the only way to know and experience God, is grace.
